Lib Dem Plan for Tree Planting
Liberal Democrats in Warrington have welcomed plans by the Party to plant 60 million trees a year.
The Party aims to increase UK forest cover by 1 million hectares by 2045. Planting trees is one of the most viable ways of removing carbon from the atmosphere and is vital for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
The policy will be a key part of the Liberal Democrat party's plans to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 and to halve emissions by 2030 compared to today.
Cllr Ryan Baye, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South says, "I fully support the plans for planting trees and increasing the area of woodland in our country. This site in Spud Wood in Lymm is an excellent example of co-operation between the Woodland Trust and local volunteers to create more woodland. The planting was carried out several years ago and has been a huge success. We need to find more sites such as this one elsewhere in the town."
"We cannot go on pumping carbon into the atmosphere without taking action to soak it up. Trees are like a huge carbon sponge and I am keen that in our area, we play our part in tackling global climate change."
