Lib Dem plans lead to Recycling Week boost12.31.51pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 23rd Jun 2009 Lib Dem Prospective MP for Warrington South Jo Crotty is saluting the effect Lib Dem leadership of Warrington Council has had on recycling rates as the nation observes Recycling Week. "We want people to understand that recycling is easy and does not have to be hard work," said Dr Crotty. "38% of household waste in Warrington is now being recycled. This represents a big improvement since the Lib Dems took leadership of the council just a few years ago. Last year the people of Warrington recycled 10,000 tonnes through the Lib Dem's new kerbside collection scheme alone." "For Recycling Week we are encouraging people to make a pledge that they will do even more to recycle. This can be a pledge to stop using plastic carrier bags which are damaging to the environment, or to make their own compost in their garden. "What we want people to realise is that every bit helps. Recycling Week is the perfect time to try and to that little bit more." Dr Crotty added, "I would also urge local people to take advantage of the programmes being but on in Warrington this week. If you are near the Westbrook ASDA this Thursday there will be special events to give you tips on how to waste less."
