Liberal Democrats are calling on the Borough Council to make sure residents do not lose out when the Council for Voluntary Service closes at the end of the year. They are putting a motion to the full Council next Monday asking for a review.
Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr Ian Marks said, “It is very sad that after a hundred years of operation this organisation is having to
close its doors. It has done some very good work and has been a focal point for voluntary sector activity in the town. We are extraordinary lucky in Warrington to have such an active voluntary sector and the town gets tremendous value from all the hours put in by volunteers. I know that many of the services provided by the CVS can be delivered in other ways by other organisations. But we need to make sure that some of the services don’t fall through the net and are therefore lost. That is the purpose of the review we are asking for.”
Motion 1 – Council for Voluntary Service proposed by Cllr Ian Marks
This Council:
(1) Notes with sadness that the Council for Voluntary Service is to close by the
end of the year.
(2) Recognises the extremely valuable role played by the voluntary sector in
Warrington.
(3) Is concerned about the possible detrimental effect on the public by the
closure of this organisation after 100 years of operation.
(4) Refers the matter to the Executive Board to conduct a review on the impact
of this proposed closure to ensure that the residents of Warrington are not
adversely affected by any loss of the services likely to be provided in the
future.
